Based on Frank Wedekind’s 1891 German play of the same title, Spring Awakening is a rock musical adaptation composed by Duncan Sheik with book and lyrics by Steven Sater. Set in late-19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality.  This 2006 smash hit won eight Tony Awards, including best musical and best score.
